Thought of the week - Professionals

I used to hire professional help through friends or people that "fell in my lap" who spoke Hebrew and it was comfortable; or just because the price was right and laziness was on my side. How did it all work out? I ended up with an "out of status" visa situation and was not able to leave the US for 5 years. My then lawyer thought it was OK to file a renewal without having the right conditions for approval. Then my dermatologist didn't think the black mark on my wrist was a problem. But for some reason I insisted on having it removed only to find out it was melanoma; thankfully in a very early stage. My accountant opened...

Thought of the week - mornings

I'm not a morning person. Mornings are always a bit grey and my first thoughts tend to revolve around life, death and dying. My sister suggested to try and change that as part of my mindful practice. So I started to add a small smile when I wake up. A forced little smile that I noticed helped in changing my attitude towards the world and the new day. It really works! How simple to do and so effective. What is your first thought when you wake up every morning? Happy Wednesday, Yael My Sister and I

ALEMBIKA SS20 Presentation

It is always a pleasure to visit Hagar Alembik and the amazing team of ALEMBIKA in Israel. You can learn so much about the brands you are working with just by looking at how they communicate and perform on a daily basis. It is such an amazing insight and privilege to be able to take part in the process of bringing a collection to life. It is even stronger an experience when you do it accompanied by brilliantly inspiring, strong and smart women. We were accompanied by a group of fantastic personalities, some of which you are familiar with. ALEMBIKA invited a group of great women to its presentation, a selection that represents the ALEMBIKA woman. A group that includes...

Thought of the week - Safety

My son works for START, the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism. He helps with organizing data on the targets of terrorist attacks around the world. I would get a daily report from him of where and how many attacks happened that day or that month in different countries. I thought being Israeli and used to that data would not bother me at all. But hearing the dry information of a country and number of attacks again and again did take a toll after a while. I asked him if it affected him and in what way. He said it humbled him and made him grateful for living in the US. We think we have...

Thought of the week - meet in person

In the past month I visited a few of our designers at their home towns and studios. Meeting them personally gives a new angle to our relationship and a reason to continue and develop our work together and sometimes a reason to stop. I learn about their morals and work ethics from close and they learn about me. This month I met : Chiara (Italy) from Chiara Cocol, Hagar (Israel) from Alembika and Alexandra (Greece) from Ozai N Ku. All 3 are mirrors to their collections and a confirmation for me that what you see is who they are: Chiara is light and humorous. Colorful and interesting. Hagar is witty and passionate about women and clothes in a way I...
